Theatre geeks and professional sports go hand in hand, right? Dive In Productions returns for Dive In to March Madness - a Competition Cabaret, featuring Music Director Tim Goss, not on the court, but as always on the keys!
Before rumors start to fly, audiences won’t be seeing the Dive In crew attempting to score some baskets. Dive In to March Madness is a battle royale, pitting musical theatre composers against each other in a fight for the top honor: applause. Singers will be given songs from a variety of composers including Rodgers and Hammerstein, Sondheim, Jason Robert Brown, and Ryan Scott Oliver, while they go head to head in bracket-style competition. Composers will be eliminated each round by audience vote until only one remains victorious.
“This is unlike anything we have ever done before,” said Dive In’s Artistic Director Jordan Formichelli. “It’s a huge undertaking. Singers will be rehearsing songs that may never see the stage, it’s all up to the audience.”
Veteran hosts Meghan Flynn and Will Saxe will be running the show. “It’s going to be ruthless,” joked Flynn about the elimination process. “I can assure you, people will be bringing their A(ndrew Lloyd Webber) game because “Anything Goes” at this “Cabaret.” They’ve been “Working” on their songs “9-5” and it’s truly paying off, they won’t give up “their shot” for some stage time. It might be a “Circus” out there but all I know is we hope they “Bring It On.”
Dive In to March Madness is the fourth concert in the partnership between Dive In Productions and Jupiter Hall.
The concert is a BYOB event and recommended for audiences 13 and up.
Upcoming concerts include Dive In to Some Holiday, featuring songs from the original musical Some Holiday, It’s Lit, featuring songs inspired by classical literature, and Dive In to Tim Goss on the Keys, where the fate of our singers rests in the hands of music director Tim Goss.
Goss has already begun preparations on the set list: “These performers had better get their head in the game or I'm not playing Jason Robert Brown anymore."
